EDITOR’S CHOICE:
Midgard by Faun
Released August 19, 2016
http://www.miroque-versand.de/Faun-Midgard::6228.html
“The new album Midgard illuminates the mythology of the Teutons and Vikings. Faun wrote this sun – and Midsummer dances, sing the Celtic god Lugh, as well as the sea god Manannan Mac Lir for a blank harm seafaring. Transport you to magical birch groves and report Alswinn heaven Ross and the father of the gods Odin. All this is framed by the unique sound world of the band, which arises as usual from a skilful blend of folk, medieval sounds, pop and experimental electronic sound pillars – a tense mix that makes the music of Faun in the medieval scene has always been unique.
Above all, the impressive song “Odin” has it, have written together with Wardruna the Faun. The merger of the two formations may as the evocative, ravenous, ritual climax of the disc to be considered and could follow in the footsteps of “Egil Saga”. Even with the interpretation of “Rabenballade” return Faun somewhat to its roots, so this CD both old and new fans can be warmly recommended.” – From faune.de [Translated from German to English via Google Translate]
ROBYN’S CHOICE:
Jomsviking by Amon Amarth
Released March 25, 2016
Amon Amarth’s first concept album is named after the Jomsvikings, an order of Viking mercenaries/brigands who were staunchly Pagan and were dedicated to the deities of the Old Religion such as Thor and Odin. Jomsviking definitely invokes this image with tracks such as “Raise Your Horns,” “The Way of Vikings,” “One Thousand Burning Arrows,” “Vengeance Is My Name,” and “Back on Northern Shores.” A leading Viking metal band, Amon Amarth definitely deserves (and once you learn about them, even commands) attention. They’re currently on a world tour. Check them out at: http://www.amonamarth.com/.

Hippie Pocket by Ginger Doss
http://www.gingerdoss.com/store
“I had the most fun on this project that I have ever had working on any CD. You should have seen me recording some of these vocal tracks … I was having a blast. I should have videoed it but alas. I can’t record an album and video at the same time all by myself. Or can I? Here the years devoted to my spirit’s purpose, my music and living life on the road connecting with so many amazing spiritual and diverse communities come through in a new energy filled with joy and free spirited fun.” – Ginger Doss
